Inspired by the homeowners’ existing artwork and carefully curated paint palette, this dining room transformation in Silver Spring, Maryland, celebrates color through a sophisticated and thoughtfully layered design. The goal was to create a welcoming space that felt both functional for everyday living and inviting for entertaining family and friends.

Storage was a top priority, as the adjoining kitchen lacked sufficient space for everyday essentials. Two beautifully coordinated buffets provide generous concealed storage, while custom open shelving offers the perfect place to display cookbooks, decorative accessories, and frequently used items, adding both function and personality to the room.

The homeowners also wanted a dining table that was comfortable for daily meals while offering the flexibility to accommodate guests. A pedestal table with a self-storing butterfly leaf expands effortlessly from seating four to six, eliminating the need to store a separate leaf while making entertaining simple and convenient.

Neutral dining chairs provide a timeless foundation that allows the room’s vibrant color story to shine. When additional seating is needed, accent chairs upholstered in a rich twilight blue fabric introduce another layer of color and visual interest. Anchoring the entire space is a thoughtfully selected area rug that beautifully unifies the palette and brings warmth, texture, and balance to the design.
