Our clients, a family of four with young children in Arlington VA, had very different styles but one specific goal — a warm inviting space where they can entertain family and friends. They described their aesthetic as “French country, modern, rustic, bohemian and metropolitan”. We brought in elements to tie the spaces together while keeping their lifestyle and aesthetic in mind. In addition, we also had the added challenge of designing for “now and later” as our clients move from their current space to a more permanent forever home in the next few years.
In the dining room, we melded their styles together with a rustic yet polished pedestal table and canvas upholstered mid-century chairs anchored by a sand-colored jute rug. Their existing chandelier added a bit of extra French country charm that does not compete with the stunning floor to ceiling windows and back yard foliage.
At the side entry, we created an area for the kids where they can play, create art, and store their toys in fun storage baskets that sit atop a rustic baker’s rack.
In the living room, the sofa is a nod to their sophisticated but non-traditional aesthetic. Metal-framed lounge chairs and coffee table bring a bit of their metropolitan chic vibe to the room. The storage cabinet adds a rich wood element that compliments the hardwood floors and provides a place to store their most prized possessions. Bohemian meets mid-century is brought in with the area rug, planters, and accessories. The palette of warm neutrals sets the stage for cozy family time for years to come.
